As a self taught artist, Mark Fortier has been pursuing his art career through many venues. Beginning on the regional level his work has gained recognition and awards very quickly. Expanding into the national arena has also proved very successful for him.

His work was selected as first place winner in Strathmores 2004 National competition. Mark's work was selected for exhibition in the Halpert Bi Annual National exhibit. For three consecutive years his work has been selected and awarded in the Colored Pencil Society's International exhibits in Memphis, Chicago and Albuquerque. He is now honored as a signature member.

He has been published in Direct Art magazine as well as written a feature article for Strathmore papers Artist Newsletter.

In Early spring 2006 Mark's work was exhibited in New York City's esteemed Agoro Gallery.

Mark created the artwork for Prismacolors 120 count gift box for Sanford Corporation. His artwork graces the labels of products shipped all over the United States and Canada.

Mark currently works out of his studio in North Carolina.

The responsibility of the artist is to capture what he connects to. He must capture the emotion, the character and the response he feels, through his chosen medium. By doing so he preserves a part of his soul and shares it with those who look upon his work. He encapsulates a moment for following generations to experience.

It is with this purpose that I pursue my art. Primarily my subject choices rest on the unsolicited inspiration arising our of normal life. I am inspired by people about the business of living. I am inspired by the integrity of the individual. I am inspired by unassuming places waiting to be noticed.

I strive for realism in what I render. My goal is not to duplicate a photographic effect, but to authenticate. Through my use of light and color I hope to enunciate the value of my subject. My use of realism endorses the subject.
